Concerns Expressed
Members of your BVCA, on separate occasions, met with the Huntsville City School Board and Mayor Battle. We expressed your concerns about the School Board moving their administrative offices to the Clements Church property located on the corner of McClung and Owens. We also spoke with District #2 City Council Representative, Frances Akridge, about shared concerns.
Coordination Happening
We are extremely pleased to see the coordination between the City and the School Board concerning the location of the School Board’s administrative building. The following information is what we know about the agreement as of March 1st.
The City of Huntsville has offered the Huntsville City School Board space for their administrative offices in a new mixed-use development. The old Builder’s Square location, west of North Memorial Parkway, just north of Max Luther Drive.
Included in this cooperative effort between the City of Huntsville and the School Board is an Assignment of Purchase and Sale Agreement. It’s with 15 and Counting LLC. They will assume the School Board’s previous purchase of the Clements Baptist Church property.
Being Ready
Any change of ownership of the Clements property will inevitably have impacts on our community. So, we must continue to work together to have a strong voice in the development or use of that property. Based on our meeting with Mayor Battle, we understand that it is important that we are prepared with alternative use recommendations for the Clements property.
Survey Coming
BVCA has requested information about the Clements purchase status and the LLC’s role, which will better inform that discussion. Please look for a survey to be posted soon on Blossomwoodites and NextDoor. We want your preferences and concerns for this property.
As always, thank you all for your concern and feedback!
