Sale Not Consummated
The big news this week is that Clements Church property is again for sale. After all the surprises, twists and turns, and abundant speculations since 18 January, what’s going on, you ask? Well, the purchase agreement, made between Clements Church and the City Board of Education was not implemented by 18 March, the expiration date of the 60-day due diligence period.
And by now we all know that the BoE is relocating in the near future to a sizeable renovation effort underway on the North Parkway @ Max Luther Drive. We wish them well and we hope their relocation goes smoothly! As for this latest ripple, we would have posted this important news last Friday if a second confirmation had been available before the weekend, a solid confirmation that was received today.
The property is back on the market and prospective buyers are now being shown the property. Mayor Battle and City Council District 2 Representative Frances Akridge were each notified this morning that we BVCA are aware of the newly announced status of the property. That we are on alert now, and that we are hopeful of a good outcome. Please be watching here for that delayed survey of neighborhood opinions regarding the property’s possible future uses.
BVCA Board Discussion
BVCA Board and Membership Meeting(s). The BVCA held its March monthly Board meeting last Thursday evening, 18 March, via Zoom. The full Board was present. We all dove into the primary topic of discussion, the pending sale of the Clements Church property.
The discussion centered on several ideas, including possible uses allowed under R-1A zoning, and some variations on it. Those all will be contained in the survey questions for you to see and for comment.
Regarding General Membership meetings, it is our intent to get back to quarterly General Membership Meetings in the 2nd quarter, sometime in May (exact date TBA). Definitely by Zoom, for up to 50 people (or more if demand is greater).
Then, if the pace of pandemic recovery permits, we want our 3rd quarter General Membership Meeting to be held in August. Either by Zoom or in person at a proper venue, for up to 100 people. And to be an Annual Membership Meeting if possible.
The 4th quarter General Membership Meeting will be in November, either in person or by Zoom. Stay turned for further details about each meeting and their dates. Call for a special Volunteer!!
Patriotic Flag Display
The Optimist Club’s annual Patriotic Flag Display is coming to Blossomwood this year! A key first step – we need a volunteer who is, or is willing to be, a member of both the Optimist Club and BVCA. Once aboard, he or she will serve as the liaison between the two organizations. And will actively collaborate with our project lead, Michael Kinzer, regarding Blossomwood’s participation in the project.
There is a lot of logistics involved, and a band of 5-10 volunteers need from around the neighborhood. Since this is our first year in the project, we will focus on two dates – 4 July and 11 Nov. Then, in 2022 and beyond, we can expand to the four Patriotic Flag dates celebrated in the Optimist Club’s project each year.
More about the expansion idea later this year. Please send a reply, either here or to bvcassociation@gmail.com, to let us know about your interest and availability.
Respectfully, Bob Jones BVCA President
